This highly experimental, designed book, was produced by Crisp as part of her MFA work at California Institute of the Arts in 1995. It features blocks of text arranged in a constructivist manner as well as blank space reminiscent of Mallarme's Un Coup de Des. By spreading open the cover one can read the following: "lay open this book - and you will see - typophilia - undisguised - a quaint affliction - illustrated - by mesostich - paeans to - the queen of letters." Each double opened page is printed with a different font of the letter Q and with a large stylized reproduction of part of the font. Esther K Smith was the art director and Dikko Faust did the letterpress and typography for this bookwork by Happersett. The colophon states that "This series of mathematical drawings is based on growth and decay patterns of twigs and the Fibonacci sequence," The books are entitled, "Twig," "Leaf," "Conch," "Bloeman" and "Sprout." Each page of the books is made with additional calligraphic strokes using a progressive Fibonacci sequence page by page to connote the natural history of growth of the plants mentioned in the titles.. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
